Current Teaching 2008-09

For the Autumn 2008-09 semester I will be teaching the following courses in the Religions and Theology Subject Area at the University of Manchester:

  • Introduction to the Study of Religions and Theology Core Course (RELT10311), which explores key approaches to the study of religion such as anthropological, historical and phenomenological.
  • Introduction to Christian Theology (RELT10131), which investigates the nature of the bible and development of doctrine in Christian traditions.
  • Making Sense of Christ: From Lessing to Harnack (RELT20031), which focuses upon the nature of Christology in the thought of key nineteenth century theologians and philosophers such as Kant, Hegel, Kierkegaard, Strauss, etc.

Beyond these courses my teaching interests gravitate around the reflexive relationship between Protestant theology and postmodern philosophy. In regards to my teaching style I typically lecture with a media presentation in a relatively extemporaneous way. My goal is to direct students to source texts by illuminating key ideas and concepts. As well, I make many course materials available online.
